It's great that you're even asking the question. Many people dismiss Twitter without a seconds thought. What would have been interesting as well is if you'd asked the question on Twitter ;o)

It's a shame you can't make the Social Media Surgery but as my web site says I accept cash, popcorn and tea for my services so make me a cuppa and I'll gladly show your team how you could use Twitter for the festival.

As for live-tweeting events, you can leave us @LichfieldBlog folks to that. It's generally me behind @LichfieldLive and I love doing it even if no-one listens!

I'd say Twitter was a perfect way of promoting the festival, it's a great way of complimenting having a blog, and plugging events. Live tweeting every event may be a stretch too far, but there could be some events that may benefit from it.

IMHO, I can't see the point of using Twitter to record comments on live events. But it is quite useful to promote a blog (I paste links into my Twitter page every time I update my blog), and also to advertise upcoming events. I would never have known about the social media cafe at the George IV, for example, without following Twitter. And of course this man - http://twitter.com/DrSamuelJohnson - is about the best thing on Twitter.

firstly, many thanks for your comments and good wishes Roger. I'm delighted that you have enjoyed so many festival events over the years and Glass and GVB are certainly two on my list of highlights.
secondly, to answer A Connor, day four was busy. I have found myself unexpectedly pushed this year to write my blog to the same extent that I wrote last year. Every spare scrap of time has been taken up with my new dog. I intend to go over all the gaps of the festival, and fill them in, but this is year to come.

As the Festival closes for another year, I thought I would take this opportunity to express my personal appreciation for all you've done during your tenure as Director. There have been some unforgettable events ; Philip Glass, the Great Voices of Bulgaria and the Tibetan monks to name just three. I personally am especially fond of the excellent chamber concerts in St Michael's Church. Everything there is so friendly and informal and yet, at the same time, so thoroughly professional.

I am sure I speak for thousands of Lichfeldians when I say that Richard Hawley will be a hard act to follow. Allow me to wish you every success in your future career and as they say in Scotland 'Haste Ye Back.'

golly Janet, you are so right. and that's not even mentioning the Stone Voices from 2007. Both Stone Voices and Stone City Voices were a wonderful project, and you are absolutely right to correct me. I was thinking of professional poets, but even last year we had Polarbear performing his poetry. It seems my 'not since 2004' was completely wrong.

This may be the first time a professional poet has read in the Lichfield Festival since 2004 Richard, which is a pleasing development. I just wanted to remind everyone, however, that The Lichfield Poets along with pupils from the Friary school did Stone City Voices in the Garrick Studio last year and it was very well received. It was an amazing experience to be in this year's choir. The Black Voices crew and Sara Coleman truly took us out of our comfort zone by insisting that we learn and perform without written music, something that many of us haven't done since primary school. Needless to say, they had faith in us long before we did! Each of the leaders had a very different style but they all brought abundant energy, infectious enthusiasm and a genuine smile to every rehearsal. The performance was exhilarating - for singers and audience alike - and the sheer joy I experienced will stay with me for years to come.

Huge thanks to everyone who made it possible: in forming and nurturing the Lichfield Festival Chorus you've created something very special in our community.
